The instruction manual:

Bibliographic code: Section L1

Section L1 includes discussion of Ashbery's work in general, in books, academic papers and dissertations, journals, lectures or other public presentations (documented as texts, recordings, programs, announcements, etc.), etc. When possible, the notes fields of citations in Section L1 will provide brief synopses or descriptions of critical work about Ashbery.

Although the writings in Section L1 may focus on specific works or collections by Ashbery, they are not "book reviews" per se (i.e., generally judgmental texts commonly written to coincide with a book's publication), which are in Section L2.

Usually, only the first publication of Section L1 items, whether in books or periodicals, is given a complete citation. All known reprints usually are mentioned in the notes field of the citation.
