The instruction manual:
Bibliographic code: Section F

Section F includes w riting about art, by or translated by Ashbery, in newspapers and periodicals. Writing about art includes writing about architecture, film, the decorative arts, etc. Section F items usually represent the first periodical publication of a particular text. Texts reprinted from another periodical usually are not given separate citations in Section F, but may be mentioned in the notes field of the original citation. Texts reprinted from a book or exhibition catalogue (Section E) in a periodical for the first time will appear in Section F.

The periodicals in Section F range from general interest publications such as Newsweek to specialty journals such as ARTnews. Whether or not an item belongs in Section F is determined by the type or subject of the text itself, rather than the nature of the publication in which it appears. For example, art periodicals including poems by Ashbery, but not writing about art, will be listed in Section C rather than Section F.

If the subject of the text is not clearly indicated through its title, additional information will be provided in the notes field of the citation. The terminology will be as specific as possible, e.g. a text about a Picasso exhibition will indicate "Picasso" as the subject rather than "Cubism," unless the Cubist movement in general is discussed in the text.
