The instruction manual:
Bibliographic code: Section C

Section C includes periodicals and newspapers with contributions by or translated by Ashbery, including poetry, fiction, miscellaneous prose, etc., in journals, magazines, e-zines, etc., but excluding writing about art (see Section F). Section C items usually represent the first publication of work by Ashbery in a periodical format. First-time periodical publication is exclusive to each country of publication, with the exception of translations of Ashbery's work that are published bilingually (i.e., in which the original work in English is published simply to accompany the translated text; see Section G). Periodicals that reprint pieces from books are included in Section C, but periodicals that reprint pieces from other periodicals usually are not given separate citations.

Occasionally, if it is not clear whether a publication that appears as part of a series should be considered a book (Section B) or periodical (Section C), the item may be classified as both B and C.

Section C includes interviews conducted by Ashbery, unless the interview is with a visual artist, in which case it would be in Section F. However, interviews conducted with Ashbery as a subject are in Section H. Miscellaneous published remarks by Ashbery that appear in periodicals are included in Section J1.
